At 5:33 in this 22 minute film by Ross McCall, a Faroese girl describes the horrific slaughter of pilot whales in the Faroe Islands as beautiful.
In her words: “I just think it’s beautiful to watch. The colours, and the sea is red, the grass is very green and so it’s the matching colours,
and I think it’s beautiful, it is our nationality, it’s our tradition.”

The nationalistic conditioning of the Faroese since their childhood has continued a culture where the sadistic infliction of pain and death is viewed not as cruel and horrific
but as beautiful in a culture that equates agony and death with their own national identity.
