　【ワシントン＝池田慶太、田島大志】米民主党のバイデン大統領は２９日、共和党のトランプ前大統領の集会でコメディアンがカリブ海の米自治領プエルトリコを「ゴミの島」と発言したことに絡み、トランプ氏の支持者をゴミに例えるかのような発言をした。大統領選の投開票を間近に控え、両陣営の非難合戦が激しくなっている。

　バイデン氏はヒスパニック系団体とのオンライン会合に出席した際、コメディアンによる差別発言に触れて、「唯一のゴミは彼の支持者たちだ」と述べた。ホワイトハウスの報道担当者は直後に声明を出し、バイデン氏は「（トランプ氏の）集会での憎悪に満ちた発言を『ゴミ』と呼んだ」と釈明した。
