Hate graffiti found at NYC synagogue

Hate graffiti was found scrawled on the wall of a Chelsea synagogue Thursday morning, police said.
The graffiti read “666,” a symbol for the devil. It was discovered by cops as they passed the Chelsea Synagogue and Chabad of Chelsea, on W. 23rd St. in a patrol car just before 9 a.m., police said.


The wall was also defaced with “Soul saver,” a police source said.
Police Commissioner Dermot Shea, speaking Wednesday in the wake of the anti-Semitic murders in Jersey City the day before, said bias crimes against Jews in the city are up 22% this year.
And he noted that while most of those incidents involved property crimes, such as swastikas and other hate messages, they often lead to acts of violence.
