A representative for the center-right Christian Democratic Union party, which voted against the resolution, called it an "intended provocation."

Jan Donhauser, chairman of the CDU group on Dresden council, told CNN there was no state of emergency, and that the wording of the
resolution was damaging to the city's international reputation.
"The choice of words in the title of the application does not do justice to the realities in our city: the vast majority of Dresdeners are
neither right-wing extremists nor anti-democratic," he said.
