However, if I may judge by myself, it is quite natural that a man should feel that the tragedy and the disaster which are perfectly irrelevant to himself are interesting. This instinct encourages us to watch the movie about the disaster.
For example, as of the movie "Titanic", most of us cannot watch without laugh the scene where the people are thrown from the deck and die. The last part of "Nibelungen Ring", where many men both of the hero's side and of the villain's side are slain finally, greatly gives the audience a sort of catharsis.
Hence, when I commented that I was amused to see the people rushing out of the windows of the train to flee from the madman with a knife, some people criticised me as lunatic, but judging from the examples above, my reaction is nothing but a rather natural feeling. >>47

When you read comics published forty yeas ago, you'll realise that there were much more "nonsense" humour in them than contemporary comics.
As of such nonsense humour, words or behaviour illogical, incoherent or meaningless, current youths perhaps can never see for what it is funny.
Why did the nonsense in the comic decline? Because, I guess, the current world is thousand times as nonsense as comics.
The Japanese society was once run rather logically with the common sense and so people used to feel the nonsense in the fiction amusing.
Current Japanese commoners are, exhausted by and suffering from the nonsense of the reality, hardly willing to enjoy nonsense humour.
A few days ago, the LDP won the election, but I think it difficult to imagine anything more nonsense than this. _________
